UK school holidays: will your Burgundy home work then?
Match your school’s holiday dates with Dijon’s calendar and actual activity opening times before choosing a family home in Burgundy.

A house may work beautifully for July and rather differently for your February half-term. For a family based in the UK, bedroom count is only part of the decision. The other question is what you can actually do when you are free to visit. Before choosing between Dijon, Beaune and a village, start with your own school calendar, then examine the property and its surroundings during those periods.
There is no single British school-holiday week
GOV.UK notes that term and holiday dates vary across the UK and directs parents to local calendars. Add the days specific to your school and check its published information before booking. A French holiday-zone map cannot describe your family’s availability either.
A dated example makes the difference clear. For 2026–2027, St Joseph’s in Selly Oak lists Easter holidays from 26 March to 9 April 2027. In the Dijon education area, within Zone A, spring holidays begin after classes on 10 April, with school resuming on 26 April. That example does not represent every British school. It shows why similar holiday names do not establish matching dates.
A nearby pool is useful only when you can use it
Dijon’s municipal pool information distinguishes term-time, holiday schedules and specific closures. Read the timetable for your proposed week and check access to the pool area you need. A property description saying there is a swimming pool nearby does not guarantee a daytime family session throughout your stay.
Apply the same approach to activities that matter to your children: accepted ages, booking requirements, occasional attendance, language of instructions and whether an adult must remain present. Confirm these with the organiser. An activity advertised for local children enrolled for the year is not automatically available to a visiting family for a few days.
Test an ordinary day, not an ambitious sightseeing schedule
Choose a realistic day from a future stay. Where will everyone have lunch if rain rules out the garden? Can children read or play without occupying the only working space? Where will wet coats, a pushchair or bicycles go? These questions give a practical value to storage, a utility room and a second living area.
During a visit, check the journey to one chosen activity and then to food shopping. For a teenager, distinguish activities possible independently from those requiring a driver. The right location depends on how your family operates. A short line on a map does not, on its own, establish a suitable journey.
Compare three stays before comparing three houses
Prepare a short description of a winter break, a spring visit and a summer stay, if those are genuine parts of your plan. For each, record the dates available, services confirmed and what the house needs to provide when an outing is cancelled. A preference that appears in all three descriptions is likely to be a meaningful search criterion.
Keep opening times and prices dated and check them again when the trip approaches. Our guide to reaching Dijon covers the journey from abroad separately. Shawez Ali, agent immobilier, can use your dates and actual household routines to select viewings, rather than treating every family-sized property as interchangeable.
